Weight Loss Tips & Goals for Continued Success
At WellBalance weightloss camps for kids and teens we won’t have therapy sessions. We don’t see you or your child as “crazy”- we see participants as having new behaviors and habits to learn. We all have habits we need to change—whether we work too hard, sleep too little, don’t study enough, and so on.
The campers at WellBalance need to lose weight, get in shape, or simply gain healthy lifestyle habits. We employ masters and doctoral level counselors to help campers change their lifestyle habits. Counselors, or “Health Coaches” work with campers during coaching sessions.
The sessions are focused on finding solutions and reaching goals such as:
- Identifying eating patterns
- Identifying taste preferences
- Identifying thoughts that are likely to get in the way of healthy eating and replace with healthier thoughts.
- Problem-solving for dealing with frustrations, setbacks, and situations that can lead to unhealthy eating or lack of exercise.
- Locating local resources in the camper’s community such as support groups, organized sports, and recreational opportunities.
- Development of a comprehensive plan with the camper detailing how they will be successful upon transition home with their diet and exercise regime.

Health Coaching is NOT Life Coaching
Health Coaching is NOT Life Coaching. “Life Coaches” do not undergo a certification process, are not regulated by any licensing body, and often have not achieved any formal education in the field. Many people become “Life Coaches” after a weekend seminar.
On the other hand, some hospital based programs and clinically focused weight loss camps are so focused on the therapy that campers start to feel like they are in fact “crazy” or that something is wrong with them, damaging the camper’s self esteem.
At WellBalance we'll take a multidisciplinary approach. The therapeutic component is not given more focus that the personal training or the nutrition or culinary skills classes, for example. We simply recognize that you want the best—so we provide our campers with a well-rounded fitness and weight loss approach that works.
While you are trained on how to change your healthy habits, you will also have a lot of fun. At WellBalance we are solution focused. We don’t linger on past problems longer than what’s needed to fix them. Our focus is on the positive and forward thinking.
